When I was fighting depression, I remember hearing this expression and not understanding it at first. When I decided to implement it in my life, a whole new world opened up for me. Change the negative, self-loathing thoughts to positive, self-affirming ones. When you’re positive about yourself and everything around you, you begin to see the world in a different light. Your life today is what you make of it.
Be mindful of the tone of your thoughts. Change your thoughts, change your life. (Not my words.)
There will be times when we feel knocked down at every turn. Grief, depression, and so much more. It’s important to preserve a sense of humor. You have to remember to laugh at these things or they’ll control you. Laughter will help you see the light in the darkest of times. It’s more powerful than you’ll ever know. Even at your lowest points, keep your sense of humor and use it.
Man, when you lose your laugh, you lose your footing. – KEN KESEY.
(This video got nothing to do with the post above. I haven’t said anything on this Ukraine-Russia war situation till now. Other countries must stay away from joining this war because there’s a huge risk of further escalation.)
Keep going. No matter how stuck you feel. No matter how bad things are right now. No matter how many days you’ve spent crying. No matter how hopeless and depressed you feel. No matter how many days you’ve spent wishing things were different. I promise you won’t feel this way forever. Keep going.
When I say I want to travel, I don’t mean I want to stay at resorts and go on tours with tour guides or buy key chains from souvenir shops. I don’t want to be a tourist. When I say I want to travel, I mean I want to explore another country and become part of it for 2-3 weeks. I want to discover small coffee/baguette shops in France, churrerias in Spain, Pasta/Pizza in Italy and much more beyond. I want to walk on beaches in Australia and browse the old book stores of London & Manchester. I want to hike the great wall of china and go cliff diving in Hawaii. I want to meet people who are not like me, but people who I can like all the same. I want to take pictures of things and places and people I meet, not stupid selfies for Instagram. I want my mind to be in constant awe of life on earth. I want to see things with new eyes & an open mind. I want to look at a map and be able to remember how I was transformed by the places I’ve been to, the things I’ve seen, and the people I’ve met. I want to come home and realize that I have not come home whole, but have left a piece of my heart in each place I have been. This, I think, is what is at the heart of adventure and this is why I plan on making my life one. Basically i will retire in my 30s while i am still a PhD research scholar/student & all these are my retirement plans.
Everyone is entering relationship, getting engaged or married or pregnant, then entering depression or their 5-month validity of joy. Meanwhile me & my bestfriend just wanna look fleek, stay single and travel, while building an automotive blog, selling atheleisure clothing & whey protein supplements online. Travel because you don’t remember years, you remember memories/moments.
Most people chase HAPPINESS like a temporary emotion. Happy today, sad tomorrow, broke next day & heartbroken another day. Fix your standards first. (Not talking about lifestyle. It’s about your way of living.) Then don’t accept anything below your standard.
You know, you sometimes think yourself into unhappiness and depression. But did you know, you could also think yourself into happiness? By positive thinking, you will be well, you will prosper, and your prayers will be answered. Become the master of your thoughts. Stop thinking about how tough life is. Stop thinking about the future and the past. Think of people who care about you & God’s riches and love, and express those thoughts daily. You will become what you think.
The WORLD is increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn’t very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything related to life. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. How do you get them to buy a new smartphone? By making them feel like they are being left behind in technology race & social media world or better faster apps/camera/software.
To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act. To be happy with your own non-upgraded existence. To be comfortable with our messy, human selves, would not be good for business. When you have little time, ask yourself what actually makes you HAPPY & once you find your answers, never settle for anything below that.
“Choose your words carefully”. Just like your body language, the words you speak and think have a huge impact on your mindset. Establishing a vocabulary that utilizes positive words is an essential habit for healthy mind. Even positive self-talk can help you regulate your emotions and improve your overall psychological state. And it doesn’t end there, the words you use with other people affect how they respond to you creating a feedback loop whether that loop is positive or negative.
It’s up to you before you begin to craft your personal dictionary. You need to know what’s already in it. How do you label things or describe them in conversation? When you talk about your emotions, is the language full of intensity understanding or complexity? When you’re feeling uneasy about a presentation, you might say that you’re terrified but perhaps you’re just a little nervous. If you’re having issues with your partner you could say you’re extremely furious but in reality, you may just be a bit annoyed. When you tag your emotions with intensity, your brain recognizes that in response accordingly. If you are mindful and aware, you can tone down your vocabulary and use language with less emotional power. This way you will be able to stay more positive.
People going through DEPRESSION are overly emotional. Depression develops the tendency to bottle up emotions, but those emotions don’t disappear. Instead they overflow at the slightest inconvenience. If someone becomes volatile over small things, it could be because depression overwhelms them with emotions. They might cry, become angry or even have an emotional breakdown in response to something. Most people would normally brush-off.
If you are going through DEPRESSION, talk about it & consult a medical professional in worst case. We all have been through this, everything in your life good or bad pushes you towards your purpose slowly but surely.
